Killing Time by Linda Howard

Killing Time
By Linda Howard
ISBN: 0345453468

Book Description

In 1985, with much fanfare, a time capsule was buried under the front lawn of a small-town county courthouse, to be reopened in 2085. But just twenty years later, in the dead of night, the capsule is dug up, its contents stolen. That same night, one of the contributors to the capsule is brutally slain in his home–with no sign of forced entry or indication of a struggle. One by one, others who had placed items in the time capsule are murdered.

Besides his suspicions about the sudden, mysterious appearance of Nikita Stover, the chief investigator, Knox Davis, has absolutely no leads. And while Nikita’s no murderer, she seems to be hiding plenty of secrets. With more at stake than anyone else realizes, the smart-talking Nikita is determined to catch this cunning killer–while at the same time battling her own deepening feelings for a man and for a world in which she doesn’t belong.

First Line

There was a small turnout, about fifty people, to watch the time capsule being buried next to the flagpole in front of the county courthouse.

Review

Don't really know what to make of this book as I couldn't really get into it as it started off like a thriller and then all of sudden sci-fi was thrown in with a very small amount of romance. I don't really like the time travel so it kinda put me off the book. For me there wasn't enough romance either. The ending was also a let down as the book builds up this mystery and when it is being resolved its over too quick and you are left wondering what actually happened. So a big build up with a poor ending is the best way to describe it.

Author Review - Rachel Gibson

Romance author Rachel Gibson is one my favourites, her writing is quirky, funny, entertaining, and sexy. Whenever I pick up one of her books I can't put it back down again until I have finished it. Her past couple of books I picked them up in the morning and finished it that evening as I just couldn't put them down. The books lift my spirits up as they are that entertaining. She was has a way of writing romance without it being corny but sexy and passionate with a few funny moments along the way. I can and have re-read most of her books as they just don't get old to me. I would recommend her books if you are interested in romance books that excite her and engaging.

If He’d Just Bend A Little

With the men in his family always in the slammer, Jase was raised in foster care. He knows what it takes to walk the line: following the rules. And his number one self-imposed rule? Avoiding his hunger for sexy, irresistible Poppy, who challenges him on everything. Especially that number one rule...

First Line

"So what do you think?"

Review

This one started off slow for me but once I got into it I loved it. When Poppy and Jason meet in the book you can feel the tension between them but also sizzle and when they come together about half way through the book its explosive!!! Jason comes across very stubborn so when he meets with Poppy they do clash as she is very stubborn too and she is her own woman so she knows what she wants and doesn't let a man get in her way.

As his wicked kiss ignites an unforgettable blaze of passion between them, Jack and Eden confront a soul-searing love that cannot be denied.

First Line

She wanted to dance.

Review

Brilliantly described book from the jungles of South American to sailing on the high seas and then entering high society of London. This was a passionate enthralling story with the characters being as stubborn as each other but their passion overcomes their stubbornness. You can't not fall in love with Eden as she is fiesty and strong willed and she is the perfect match for cold stand offish Jack who needs someone to stand up to him and make him feel special and wanted. Brilliant end to the series but would love to read more of the family if Gaelen does do more.

Stuck On You by Patti Berg

Stuck On You
By Patti Berg
ISBN: 0380820056

Book Description

It's common knowledge in Plentiful, Wyoming, that bookstore owner Scarlett O'Malley imagines trouble brewing everywhere. Of course, real trouble bubbles over the day an enigmatic stranger named Logan Wolfe shows up in town. The outsider's one hunk of a guy, with a smile that could knock a redhead off her sky-high heels. But when a mysterious woman literally drops dead at Scarlett's feet and the town's wealthiest widow disappears, suspicion falls on the secretive man. Scarlett is positive Logan's up to something -- but is he out to scam the people in town, or steal her heart?

The last thing Logan wants is a screwball sleuth dogging his footsteps and digging into his past. The ex-cop came to Plentiful to escape the madness of Las Vegas and to ditch bad memories, not to have some zany redhead with a man-killer body mess with his peace of mind or history that's better off buried. But Logan can't help admiring Scarlett's spirit -- or the gold stars dangling from her belly button ring. And when her wacky investigation takes a surprising turn, Logan finds himself glued to Scarlett's side, helping her look for clues, keeping her out of trouble -- and maybe falling in love ...

First Line

"Powdered sugar drifted dow, down, down, settling lightly on the dead man's chest, speckling the hideous words carved deep in his skin."

Review

This book was quite funny with Scarlett letting her imagination run wild and jump to the wrong conclusions, it doesn't help that her friends are just as bad and they egg each other on, which causes problems with Logan when she spys on him but instead of running away from Scarlett he runs to her! Then the passion of the book starts and you get sucked into their growing relationship. Really enjoying entertaining read.

Angel Hunter by Ana Leigh

Angel Hunter
By Ana Leigh
ISBN: Unknown

Book Description

His firm, sensuous lips pursed around an expensive cheroot, Ruark Stewart waited impatiently as the lavish paddle wheeler made yet another stop along the banks of the great Mississippi. But when he caught sight of the spirited black stallion and the raven-tressed beauty that came up the gangplank, his boredom quickened to excitement. The horse was clearly a champion, the woman just as clearly a mystery, and Ruark knew he must possess them both. Determined to have the thoroughbred in his stable and the spitfire in his bed, Ruark began a wild pursuit that would take him to heaven and back for the elusive Miss Angeleen Hunter.

First Line

The young black boy sitting at the water's edge jumped to his feet as a shrill blast rent the air, and the Belle of the Bayou chugged around the bend, the brown waters of the Mississippi churning beneath the huge red paddle wheel propelling the vessel.

Review

This book was full of passion, wrong conclusions, surprises, unhappiness and happiness. The story follows the meeting of Ruark Stewart and Angeleen Hunter and what happens to them. Angel becomes Ruark's mistress and you follow them jumping to the wrong conclusions, fighting what their hearts are saying and hurting each other. Reading it kinda made me frustrated as you wanted to knock some sense into them and tell them to get their act together and go with their hearts. As like most love stories there is a happy ending which finishes the book nicely.

Every Wish Fulfilled by Samantha James

Every Wish Fulfilled
By Samantha James
ISBN: 0380786079

Book Description

Heather Duval became the ward of the Earl of Stonehurst at age 4 after her parents were killed in a carriage accident. Now a grown woman of 21, Heather is the proud owner of Lockhaven Park. Heather pours all her energy into making certain that the manor flourishes. She believes that her advanced age and maimed leg destine her for spinsterhood. Then Damien Tremayne enters her life and turns her peaceful world upside down. But Damien's identity is deceptive. He is out to discover old secrets and solve a murder; in so doing he uncovers a past Heather only thought of as a bad dream.

First Line

Little by litte the haze of twillight seeped between the shutters.

Review

All the way through the book you feel for Heather as she stuggles to find herself and deal with the feelings she feels for Damien Tremayne as she is so used to being on her own and settled her mind to it as well for the rest of her life. You then have Damien stuggling with his own demons and trying to find the answers to the questions he needs answering before he can move forward with his life. The book is really good as it is full of promise of love and passion and a bit of heartbreak to make you keep reading to find out what is going to happen with the characters.
